Requirements:
Worship Team members lead in all Sunday services on a rota)on basis. This ministry requires an accomplished skill level, which is determined through an audition process (remember, we’re not looking for perfection). Rehearsals for the band and vocal teams are on Thursday evenings from 6:30-9. Vocal Rehearsal starts at 6:30pm and full band rehearsal starts at 7:15. These rehearsals are mandatory and must be a priority. If you cannot make it to a rehearsal you must let Caleb Peterson know 24 hours in advance (emergencies that occur within 24 hours of rehearsal are understood). Music will be rehearsed one week at a )me. And music charts and audio tracks of the songs can be accessed online on our church Planning Center account which you will have access to.

The following criteria are necessary for involvement in the Band:

•  A growing relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord
• Regular church attendance
• A comfortable stage presence (if you have questions about this, ask Caleb for advice)
• Appropriate Clothing (See Dress Guidelines)

Instrumental requirements:

• Able to play from chord charts
• Able to play in a “band” environment with other musicians
• Able to learn a part from an audio recording
• Able to play a variety of musical styles
• Able to ask for help if you are struggling with specific parts

Singing requirements:

• Ability to inspire and model worship, not just perform
• Able to learn a vocal part by ear-harmony
• Able to sing in a “contemporary” vocal style
• Able to blend well and “hold a part” with other singers

Process

• Read the team info document (this document) and fill out and return to Caleb the team application.
• Agenda a scheduled Thursday night rehearsal to observe the rehearsal process.
• Participate in a scheduled interview with worship leadership, and audition at a scheduled )me at Journey. The audio and charts for the selected songs will be provided by Caleb via Google Drive.
• INSTRUMENTALISTS: At the scheduled audition, play through the two pre-selected songs with other band members. As you prepare the songs, consult the charts as needed and be prepared to play “your part” (drums, bass, synth, acoustic, electric) with the band.
• SINGERS: At the scheduled auditon, sing the pre-selected solo song with tracks using a microphone. Also sing the pre-selected song with a vocal group to determine your range, vocal part, intonation (singing in tune), blend, and ability to harmonize.
• Ministry placement will be made following the audition.

Team Info:
A foundational principle of our ministry is that God is our audience.

This means that we are not about performance. Rather, we are about being worshipers first and foremost. We are about living a life of worship, in everything we do, not just on the stage. It is from this relationship that we are empowered and have something to offer to God, to people, and to those who are seeking a relationship with God. It is our conviction that the ministry must have integrity before God, the church, and the world.

As Worship Team members, we’re about being Lead Worshipers among a church of worshipers. So the move from the congregation to the platform is a call from God to take a leadership position in the church. This type of leadership challenges us to live and grow in three important areas: godliness, giftedness and commitment.

Godliness has to do with Heart – our character, our integrity, our authenticity, all of which flow from our developing relationship with Jesus Christ. Our service must be “a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of our lips that give thanks to God” (Hebrews 13:15). Therefore, a desire to grow in our relationships with Jesus must be a priority, though this may look different from person to person.

Giftedness has to do with skill – the abilities and talents that God has given each of us, as well as the extent to which these skills have been developed. Service to our God, the church and our community calls for our very best. Psalm 33:3 tells us to “play skillfully.” Therefore, we pursue excellence (not perfec)on, though). As a result, it is our desire to assist interested individuals in (1) assessing their abilities, and (2) placing them in appropriate areas of ministry, whether as part of the worship team or as part of any number of other vital ministries at Journey.

Commitment has to do with giving God the best that we have to offer. Along with our growing personal commitment to Christ, we should have a commitment to Journey Chris)a Church and the Worship Ministry. This involves supporting the church leadership--church elders, staff members and J-Team leaders. This commitment to serve should be whole-hearted. It cannot be limited by convenience. It involves giving not only our talent, but also our )me and energy, which includes practicing music before the scheduled rehearsals. This is because our service to God is a sacrifice of praise.
